- Cells are building block of living things
- We need to look through a microscope.
1.1 Plant Cells
Parts of a plant cell
Cell wall: Every plant has a cell wall. It is strong, stiff. Made out of a substance called cellulose. Holds the plant cell in shape
Cell membrane: All cells has it. It is very thin and flexible. In the inner edge of the cell wall. Controls what goes in and out of the cell.
Cytoplasm: All cells has it. It is a jelly like substance. Chemical reactions happened in it. Reactions keep the cells alive.
Nucleus: Most cells have nucleus. It controls all the activities of the cell.
Sap Vacuole: A large fluid- filled space in the cell. The liquid inside is a solution of sugars (glucose) and other substances dissolved in water. The solution is called cell sap.
Chloroplast: Only found in most of the plant cells (not fungi). Where the plant makes their food. It is green because they contain a green substance called chlorophyll. That's where leaves get their color!
Mitochondrion: (plural: Mitochondria) Power-house of the cells. It releases energy for food.
