Union between scot and eng --> not a peacefull union, they don't get along. Many claims in scot for its independence.

Scot joined Eng and Wales by a treaty for eco reasons. The name Great Britain was created that day.

Scot p want to protect their identity. Scot has called several times for some form of autonomy. Became a reality in 1999 --> creation of the SP called the Holyrood Parl in Edinburgh. Tony Blair organised a referendum for that Parl to happen. When a region obtains a Parliamentary assembly it’s called a devolution. -->High degree of autonomy from Eng.

SP is able to pass laws affecting scot policies only, has the pow to raise or lower taxes + on 4 mains areas: education, health, justice and agriculture. 

Members called MSPs, elected for 4y. Royal assent still applicated.


Scot also have a gov w ministers and a 1st minister, Humza Yousaf, also the leader of SNP.

1st minister since march2023 .

His party: very much pro-independence, supports the independence of Scot, -->their main topic, ambition.

SNP also known to be a very progressive party, always been in favour of equal marriage, supportive of ethnic and sexual minorities and pro eu.
