Science (english medium)

Definitions

Definitions

Scientific Method
A systematic approach involving observation, experimentation, and hypothesis to understand and explain natural phenomena.
Hypothesis
A proposed explanation for a phenomenon, which can be tested through experiments or observations.
Experiment
A procedure carried out under controlled conditions to test a hypothesis and collect data.
Observation
The act of noting and recording an occurrence using the senses or scientific tools.

Physics

Physics is the branch of science concerned with the nature and properties of matter and energy. The subject matter of physics includes mechanics, heat, light and other radiation, sound, electricity, magnetism, and the structure of atoms.

Chapter 1: Light – Reflection and Refraction

This chapter covers the basics of light, how it behaves when it meets different surfaces, and the laws governing reflection and refraction. Students learn about the mirror's image formation and the refractive indices of different media.

Chapter 2: The Human Eye and the Colourful World

Focuses on the human eye's structure and function, visual defects and their correction. It also explains atmospheric refraction and dispersion of light. Key concepts include how and why the sky appears blue and the formation of a rainbow.

Chemistry

Chemistry deals with the substances of which matter is composed, their investigation, their properties, and how they interact, combine, and change to form new substances.

Chapter 1: Chemical Reactions and Equations

This chapter introduces chemical reactions, how substances interact and change, and how these changes can be represented using chemical equations. Balancing chemical equations is a key skill developed.

Chapter 2: Acids, Bases, and Salts

Describes the properties of acids, bases, and salts, and their importance in daily life. This chapter includes testing pH levels and applications of neutralization reactions.

Biology

Biology is the science of life and living organisms. It is a natural science with a broad scope but has several unifying themes that tie it together as a single, coherent field.

Chapter 1: Life Processes

Life processes cover the basic functions performed by living organisms to sustain them. This includes nutrition, respiration, transportation, and excretion.

Chapter 2: Control and Coordination

Explains how living organisms coordinate their actions and respond to external stimuli through nervous and chemical means. It highlights human nervous system components, hormonal coordination in animals, and plant movement and responses.

To remember :

Science in 10th Grade covers three major domains - Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, each with distinct chapters that build core concepts crucial for understanding the natural world. The approach to learning involves understanding scientific methods, including observations and experiments, to formulate and test hypotheses. Critical chapters in Physics explore the behavior of light and the human eye, while Chemistry chapters explain fundamental reactions and properties of substances. Biology emphasizes the processes that sustain life and the ways organisms manage their internal and external environments. Mastery of these areas lays the foundation for advanced scientific study and practical applications in various fields.
